Abhishek slaps 10-crore defamation notice on Madan Mitra over 'murderer' jibe
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced details regarding 'Pink Cards' for women availing free travel in state government buses during the inauguration of 50 new AC buses. The state government had previously rolled out a free travel scheme for women operating via zero-value tickets. Under the refined system, the Transport Department will issue a Pink Card to women who wish to obtain zero-value tickets for free rides.
The announcement comes after several employed women expressed reservations about using free government transport. They conveyed to the Chief Minister that as earning individuals, they prefer paying their fares so that state benefits can focus on supporting financially backward women. Respecting their preference, the government has ensured that an alternative ticketing system remains available for working women who choose to purchase regular tickets.
To ensure the smooth and uninterrupted implementation of the project across state transport corporations, an additional budget allocation of ₹400 crore has been provided. The Chief Minister directed the Transport Department to expedite the issuance of Pink Cards while maintaining the flexible ticketing arrangement for all passengers.
